Companies in West Yorkshire are landing new business from home and abroad by targeting
airborne customers.
Travellers flying into the region on Jet2.com services through Leeds Bradford International
Airport are responding to the growing market of inflight advertising aimed directly at affluent
passengers.
Local companies that advertise in the airlines JetAway magazine say they are seeing an upturn in
interest as a result of their higher profile with local passengers and by being able to extend their
markets internationally.
Travel and business media specialist Ink Publishing, which publishes more inflight magazines
than any other company, has just relaunched JetAway for Jet2.com with greater focus on
upmarket dining and nightlife, property, fashion and shopping features.
It comes as new research by Ink shows that advertisers are set to invest more than US$1 billion
this year in inflight media, up from US$756 million in 2004, to target the fast growing number of
worldwide airline passengers.
Since it began operating from Leeds Bradford International Airport in February 2003, Jet2.com
has flown more than 2.5 million passengers, 20 per cent of whom are visitors flying into the UK.
Paul Bedford, Managing Director of Romany Marble & Granite based in Pudsey, said: JetAway
magazine is a perfect vehicle to reach a huge, captive audience from the North of England. We are
thoroughly impressed with the first issue of the magazine, and look forward to future issues.
Sam Jones, Media Account Manager at DLJ Associates, also in Pudsey, added: Jet2.com has
become valuable for a number of our house-builder clients, enabling them to reach a regionallytargeted
captive audience encompassing a broad range of potential customers.
Our collaboration with Ink Publishing has proved to be a cost-effective and successful advertising
strategy with results that speak for themselves: each campaign has helped to deliver an impressive
sales performance at a wide range of new homes developments across Yorkshire and beyond.
Clive Brook, Franchise Manager with Wakefield-based Harratts Volvo, said the company had
chosen JetAway to appeal to rental and purchase clients. It is those customers looking for value
for money and good service that we both have in common, he added.
The redesigned JetAway magazine has been made available to passengers on Jet2.coms fleet of silver
Boeing 737 and 757 jets this week.
Commenting on its upgraded look and feel, Jet2.coms Business Director Richard Bodin said: All
our office staff and cabin crew are extremely excited about the new magazine. JetAway has
really moved us into the premier league. Its another benefit for travellers already enjoying our
consistently low fares, convenient booking, secure and safe flights, friendly service and on-time
arrivals and departures.
JetAway appears quarterly and is printed in Yorkshire.
Gemma Elwin Harris, the editor at Ink Publishing responsible for the relaunch, said: Jet2.com carries
an ever increasing number of people flying from all over the North of England to Southern Europe for
the sun, to ski the top resorts and to take weekend breaks to shop Europes hip cities and designer
outlets.
We have set out to produce a magazine much more attuned to their interests and have refocused the
editorial around lifestyle to reflect the interests of Jet2.coms affluent and value-conscious passengers.
