Sterling Airlines appointment carries Ink Publishing into Scandinavia

Inflight magazine specialist Ink Publishing announced today it has partnered with its first Scandinavian airline to publish the magazine of low cost carrier Sterling Airlines A/S.

The new publishing contract is Ink’s seventh in as many months and takes to 15 the number of airlines for which it produces inflight magazines, four times as many as its nearest competitor in Europe.

The new, bi-monthly Sterling Magazine will be in English with editorial content and advertising aimed at the airline’s affluent yet value-conscious passengers.

Sterling is Europe’s fourth biggest low cost airline and expects to carry five million passengers this year todestinations across Europe from its hubs in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. Jeffrey O’Rourke, Chief Executive of Ink Publishing, said: “This is an exciting development for Ink not only because Sterling is our first Scandinavian partner but also because it is another groundbreaking airline that complements our existing portfolio.

“Sterling has an extensive and expanding network across Europe which offers our advertisers a great opportunity to introduce themselves to passengers originating from Scandinavia and a captive, cosmopolitan audience.”

Ink is actively recruiting Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish sales and editorial staff to add to its existing team based in London.

Niels Brix, VP Communications of Sterling, said: “From our first contact with Ink it was clear they were in a league of their own in terms of understanding the inflight publishing market and being able to produce a quality publication to appeal across the range of territories to which Sterling flies.”

The magazine will be a showcase for Sterling’s destinations and hub countries covering the best of what Scandinavia has to offer leisure and vacation passengers. Its easy-to-digest format will cover news and features on travel, art and culture, hotels, shopping, entertainment and property. The new magazine will also offer content aimed directly at its growing number of business passengers attracted by the airline’s move to increase flight frequency on key routes across Europe, as well as passengers on its charter services.

It will offer a well-read vehicle for businesses and services in Sterling’s hub cities of Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki and more than 30 other destinations. In addition to its hubs, Sterling’s fleet of 27 Boeing 737s serves capital and major cities in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
