Ink Publishing moves into the Chinese language market with Sky Couch, China Airlines’ ground-breaking inflight entertainment and services guide

Ink Publishing announced today it will be launching Sky Couch China Airlines’ new groundbreaking inflight services and entertainment guide. The first issue of the monthly publication will be onboard planes as of January 1, 2007.

The national carrier for Taiwan, China Airlines was established in 1959 and is the biggest airline in Taiwan by every measure. With 9.5 million passengers in 2005, China Airlines flies to 66 cities in 24 countries.

Jeffrey O’Rourke, Ink Publishing CEO, commented: “As the only source of information about the inflight entertainment onboard, we know Sky Couch will reach nearly every one of China Airlines’ passengers and will be incredibly well-read, as the vast majority of passengers read IFE guides.”

O’Rourke continued: “Based on our experience publishing inflight magazines for 20 airlines around the world, we know how highly effective Sky Couch will be as a medium for advertisers to get their message through to China Airlines’ passengers. Over 77% of China Airlines’ passengers are from the Asia Pacific region, and Taiwanese businesses and capital are a major economic force in the area. This new magazine offers an ideal way for advertisers to connect to affluent, frequent travelers with decision making roles and high disposable incomes. Especially when they are sitting captive on a plane seeking information and entertainment.”

Michael Keating, Group Editorial Director for Ink Publishing, said: “Inside each month’s 100 page magazine, readers will find comprehensive inflight entertainment listings, features relevant to the programme listings, monthly horoscopes and engaging reviews of China Airlines’ extensive inflight video and audio programming. The magazine will also be passengers’ essential source of information on the food & drink served onboard as well as everything to do with China Airlines’ award winning inflight service.”

Keating continued: “Sky Couch will have a contemporary fresh feel but not lose sight of its traditional roots. The primary language will be Traditional Chinese, but content will also appear in Japanese and English.”

Wendy Chen, Vice President of the Marketing Services Division for China Airlines, commented: “We are very proud of our extensive inflight services and entertainment offering and we know Sky Couch will add even more value to our existing product. As the global leader in inflight magazine publishing and with 6 magazines in Asia already, we are confident Ink Publishing will produce the kind of high-quality publication our passengers would expect.”

The China Airlines fleet is equipped with audio-visual entertainment systems offering a comprehensive selection of the latest music videos, news and short-features. All intercontinental and selected Southeast Asian flights provide the latest Asian, Western and International movies, television and audio programming.

China Airlines is based in Taipei and flies extensively throughout the Asia Pacific region as well as to Europe, North America, Australia and the Middle East.
