[London, UK] CNN Traveller fought off stiff competition to win the award for Best Travel Article
Published in a Travel or Consumer magazine at the Italian Tourist Board Travel Writing Awards 2007.
The awards ceremony of the first ever Italian State Tourist Board Travel Writing Awards took place on
the 10th of December in the elegant Georgian settings of Forbes House in Belgravia, London.
The winning article “Rough Diamond” was penned by Barbie Nadeau, and published in the
September/October 2007 issue of CNN Traveller which is distributed across Europe, the Middle East
and Africa. The article is a vivid portrait of modern Naples, a city of contrasts, beautiful and
problematic, a heady mix of good and bad, gloriously illustrated by original photography shot by Tony
French, CNN Traveller’s Picture Editor.
Dan Hayes, Editor said, ‘At CNN Traveller we aim to get beneath the surface of places and provide
real insight for readers through high-quality writing and gripping original photography. It's great to
have those aims recognised with this award.’
During the course of the gala evening, awards in 5 categories were presented to the winners and the
runner-ups by the Italian State Tourist Board Director, Mr Valerio Scoyni and by actress Cherie
Lunghi. Other award-winning publications included The Independent, The Sunday Telegraph, Time
Out and ABTA magazine.
