[Macau]: Air Macau has appointed Ink Publishing to take over production of their inflight magazine starting with the February/March 2008 issue. The new Air Macau Magazine will be produced 6 times per year.
The official magazine has been relaunched as an upmarket lifestyle publication. In order to cater to the domestic audience, the primary language will be Chinese. The magazine will also contain English and Japanese content to cater to international travellers.
Only full page advertising will be accepted to create a truly premium magazine. Advertising space for 2008-2009 is already being sold, and given the strength of the Macau economy and tourism industry, advertising space for the whole of 2008 is already in high demand.
The large format, high quality magazine (270 x 230mm) is being placed on every seat on every Air Macau flight, as well as distributed to select hotels, casinos and private clubs around Macau, the airline’s home base.
Stephen Wong, Managing Director of Ink Publishing’s Hong Kong office, said “Air Macau Magazine reflects the glamour and vibrancy of Macau itself in editorial style and design. Every issue will include the latest hotel, shopping guides, property guides, business profiles, restaurant and bar guides, style-maker profiles, and interesting articles on art, culture and architecture.”
Wong continued: “This will be a very luxurious magazine. There will also be a mix of interviews with celebrities and up-and-coming entrepreneurs as well as practical advice for readers looking to invest in Macau’s booming entertainment, business and property markets.
The magazine will be Ink’s 4th Chinese language magazine, its 4th title in Greater China, and also Ink Hong Kong’s 4th publication since opening at the beginning of 2007.
Air Macau, the flag carrier of Macau, operates services to 13 destinations on mainland China, as well as international services around the region, and its unique one-aircraft service between Taiwan and mainland China. The Airline’s destinations include Beijing, Chengdu, Guilin, Haikou, Sanya, Kunming, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Hangzhou, Changsha and Guiyang, as well as Manila, Seoul, Busan, Bangkok, Kaohsiung and Taipei.
The expanding airline already flies 2.4m passengers per year, and recently announced that it would add Osaka, its first destination in Japan, to its growing list of destinations.
Jeffrey O’Rourke, Ink Publishing’s Group Chief Executive, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Air Macau at such an exciting time in the development of both the airline and Macau itself. As the Macau Special Administrative Region’s flag carrier, the airline deserves a world class magazine. As the official inflight magazine of Air Macau, Air Macau Magazine will be as fun and exciting as the city itself.”
O’Rourke continued: "We already have advertisers making bookings into 2009. I have never seen anything like it in my entire publishing career—we are being chased by Macau, Mainland and Taiwanese advertisers alike.”

Air Macau's vital role in proving a cross-Straits air service is reflected in its unique one plane service cross the strait, which it has been offering since its inception in late 1995. When passengers travel between Taiwan and cities in Mainland China, they just go through a 30 minute transfer procedure in Macau Airport with their hand luggage. They can then take the same plane to their final destination.
